British Embassy Celebrates King Charles III’s Birthday in Guatemala
The British Embassy in Guatemala hosted a reception to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty King Charles III on 26 November 2025.
The event brought together government authorities, diplomatic representatives, and partners from across sectors to reaffirm the strong ties between the United Kingdom and Guatemala.
In her remarks, British Ambassador Juliana Correa highlighted the Embassy’s achievements over the past year, including efforts to combat climate change, protect biodiversity in regions such as Trifinio, Verapaces, and Petén, and safeguard endangered species like the scarlet macaw. She also noted progress in bilateral trade, which reached nearly USD 500 million, positioning Guatemala as the UK’s leading trading partner in Central America.
The Ambassador underscored the UK’s commitment to democracy, governance, and human rights, with investments in more than 23 projects promoting transparency, institutional capacity, humanitarian response, and the protection of women and girls. Education remains a priority, with over 86 Guatemalan scholars benefiting from postgraduate studies in the UK through the Chevening scholarship programme.
This year’s celebration embraced the theme “The Four Nations” – England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland – showcasing the cultural richness and diversity that define the United Kingdom. Ambassador Correa emphasized that, in a world facing global challenges such as conflict, climate change, and economic volatility, diplomacy and alliances matter more than ever.
Looking ahead, the UK will continue to support Guatemala’s democratic processes, including next year’s judicial elections, advocating for transparent and independent institutions as the cornerstone of the rule of law.
The event concluded with a toast to His Majesty the King, the enduring friendship between the UK and Guatemala, and a shared vision for a sustainable and prosperous future.
