Press release

Bridge improvement work starts on A38(M) Aston Expressway, Birmingham

The Highways Agency is to carry out bridge improvement work on the A38(M) Aston Expressway, Birmingham, from Monday 17 March.

The five night scheme will require overnight closures of the A38(M) northbound from Dartmouth Circus and the northbound entry slip roads at Dartmouth Circus and Parkway Circus from 9.30pm to 6am each night.

The A5127 between Gravelly Hill and the A38(M) and the A38 Tyburn Road to the A38(M) will also be closed each night.

Highways Agency project manager Colin Jackson said:

We will be renewing the bridge joints which allow the structure to expand and contract with seasonal changes in temperature. This work will maintain safety on the structure and will mean improved road conditions for drivers.

The work will be carried out at night to minimise disruption but we advise road users to allow extra time for their journeys.

Traffic heading out of city on the A38(M) or intending to join the A38(M) at Dartmouth Circus will be diverted along the A5127 Lichfield Road northbound to Salford Circus.

Traffic intending to join the A38(M) northbound at Park Circus will be diverted onto the B4132 Waterlinks Boulevard then on to the A5127 Lichfield Road. Traffic intending to join the A38(M) from either the A5127 Gravelly Hill or the A38 Tyburn Road will be diverted to Salford Circus then along Lichfield Road to Dartmouth Circus.
