“The work of the Commons’ Science and Technology Select Committee in scrutinising the use of science across Government is essential to the health of our strong research base. Science is vital to our future as a nation in a global knowledge economy.

“As today’s response to the committee’s Legacy Report demonstrates, the Government welcomes their valuable contribution in maintaining a vibrant science and research base.

“We agree with the Legacy Report’s recommendations to include the Principles of Scientific Advice to Government in the new Ministerial Code. That** **is why the Code now references these Principles and makes it clear that Ministers should consider them as part of the policy-making process.”
