Appointment of Second Permanent Secretary to the Home Office

Patricia Hayes, currently Director General for public safety at the Home Office, has been appointed as its new Second Permanent Secretary.

The role will oversee the transformation of the Department’s capabilities, with a core focus on instilling operational delivery excellence.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said:

Tricia has already made an incredible impact since joining the Home Office in 2020, leading hugely important work to keep the public safe, including vital work with the police on enforcement measures during lockdown. I look forward to her taking up her new role and using her wealth of experience to transform operational delivery across the whole Department.

Home Office Permanent Secretary, Matthew Rycroft said:

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Tricia on her new role on behalf of the whole department. I know everyone will be delighted by the news. I would also like to thank her for all her hard work leading the Public Safety Group which has made such a difference during a challenging time for policing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
