Appointment of new lay member on the Sentencing Council

The Secretary of State for Justice has announced the appointment of Diana Fawcett as the ‘Promotion of the Welfare of Victims of Crime’ lay member for a period of 3 years.

Diana Fawcett is appointed to the Sentencing Council from 5 April 2019 to 4 April 2022.

Diana is Chief Officer of Victim Support. She joined the charity as Director of Operations in February 2015, and became Chief Officer in January 2018.

Prior to Victim Support, Diana was Director of Operations at Shelter for 7 years where she was responsible for the charity’s advice and support services. She has also worked for four London boroughs and 3 housing associations managing housing, development and care services.

She has been Chair of a charity in south London providing advice and support to refugees for 5 years.

Ms Fawcett has not declared any political activity. The appointment is subject to security clearance.

Appointments to the Sentencing Council are made by the Secretary of State for Justice and are regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. This appointment has been made in line with the Governance Code on Public Appointments.
