Press release

A66 overnight road closures for resurfacing, Darlington

Work to provide a new smoother road surface for drivers using the A66 between Neasham Road and Morton Palms in Darlington, will start next week.

From 19 June until 5 July there will be week night closures of the eastbound and westbound A66 between 8pm and 6am, and closures of the A66 at weekends from 8pm on Friday evening until 6am on Monday morning.

Highways Agency Project Manager Andrew Brown said:

During the closures we will be resurfacing the road, replacing road markings and road studs. The work will prolong the life of the carriageway, enhance the reflectivity of the road markings and road studs, and provide a smoother surface for drivers. There will be a clearly signed diversion route in place and drivers are asked to take extra care and leave more time for their journeys.

During week days there will be a temporary 40mph speed restriction and 2.9meters (9’-6”) vehicle width restriction in place. There will also be lane restrictions on Neasham Road and Morton Palms roundabouts and the parking lay-bys on the A66 will be closed.

During the road closures drivers will be diverted off the A66 to Grange Road, Victoria Road, Saint Cuthbert’s Way, Freeman’s Place, Haughton Road, Darlington Eastern Transport Corridor and back to the A66, and vice versa.
