Press release

A628 Flouch Roundabout to Gun Inn resurfacing

Improvement work is due to begin on the A628 Woodhead Pass next week. The work includes resurfacing the carriageway and renewing road markings and road studs.

In order to minimise disruption to drivers, work will not take place on Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights. The work will take place overnight between Monday and Thursday starting the 15 September until the end of October from 8pm to 6am. However, the actual completion date of the work is dependent upon suitable weather conditions.

For the work to be carried out, it will be necessary to fully close the A628 between the A616 Flouch Roundabout and the A57 Gun Inn junction, and fully signed diversion routes will be in place during the work. Eastbound traffic will be diverted off the A628 at the Gun Inn junction onto the A57 to Sheffield. Westbound traffic will be advised of the closure on the M1 and diverted north via the M1, M62 and M60.

The Highways Agency is also taking the opportunity to carry out routine maintenance whilst these road works are already in place.

Non-motorway traffic will be diverted onto the northbound A616 at Flouch Roundabout. At Holmfirth drivers should turn left onto the A635 and continue west until the junction with the A6018 at Stalybridge. Turn left onto the A6018 and continue in a south-easterly direction to join the A57.

Every effort has been made to ensure disruption to traffic and residents is kept to a minimum. Up-to-date traffic information can be found on the Highways Agency website, helpline (0300 123 5000), local and national radio travel bulletins and mobile app. There are also feeds of live traffic updates and other information on Twitter @HAtraffic_yorks to help people plan their journeys.
