Press release

A19 Leven Viaduct maintenance work, Maltby

The Highways Agency will shortly be carrying out essential repairs to the A19 Leven Viaduct near Maltby, Cleveland.

Work to replace bridge joints on the southbound carriageway will take place from 8pm on Friday 21 March until 6am on Monday 24 March. For safety reasons it will involve a contraflow and a temporary 50mph speed limit.

The joints allow structures to expand and contract with seasonal changes in temperature.

Highways Agency project manager, Kyle Maylard, said:

This work is part of our commitment to safe and reliable journeys on the A19. During the work we advise road users to plan their journeys to avoid delays. Safety is our top priority and for the safety of road users and road workers we encourage all drivers to drive carefully through the roadworks, keeping within the speed limit, and concentrating on the road ahead.

During the work the southbound carriageway will be closed and a contraflow will be in operation on A19 northbound carriageway between the A174 Parkway Interchange and the A67 Crathorne Interchange. A 50mph speed limit will also be in place for the duration of the work.
