Press release

A1 Darrington to Barnsdale Bar bridge joint replacement work

Drivers and residents are being made aware of emergency bridge repair work which will take place this weekend on the northbound A1 carriageway between Darrington and Barnsdale Bar.

The Highways Agency will be carrying out repairs to a failed bridge joint at Wentbridge over two consecutive weekends which will require overnight closures. Both closures will take place on the northbound carriageway between Darrington and Barnsdale Bar on the following dates:

  • 21 to 22 February between 8pm and 6am
  • 28 February to 1 March between 8pm and 6am

Fully signed diversions will be in place on both weekends.

To reduce further disruption to road users both closures will also be used as an opportunity to complete other localised resurfacing work.

Residential properties that are solely accessed via the A1 carriageway and are located within the closures, should contact the works co-ordinator on 07932 963462 to make arrangements to be escorted through the closures during the works.

Every effort has been made to ensure disruption to residents is kept to a minimum, but there will inevitably be some noise and disruption generated by the work.

For further inquiries or to discuss any aspect of the scheme in the first instance please contact the Highways Agency via their information line 0300 123 5000 or email ha_info@highways.gsi.gov.uk.
