2016 Services of Remembrance in Sofia and Plovdiv

All are welcome to join this year's ceremonies on 13 and 14 November.

To commemorate the sacrifice of those who have fallen during times of war, the British Ambassador to Bulgaria Emma Hopkins OBE will lead UK Services of Remembrance on 13 November in Sofia and 14 November in Plovdiv. All are welcome to attend.

The ceremony in Sofia will take place on 13 November, Sunday, at the Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery, Sofia Central Cemetery. The ceremony starts at 10:50 am sharp at the British Military Cemetery, and will be followed by services at the German, Italian and French military cemeteries. The Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery is the resting place of 160 British Servicemen.

On 14 November, Monday, a Service of Remembrance will also be held in Plovdiv. The ceremony begins promptly at 11:00 am, and will take place at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery, at Plovdiv Central Cemetery – the resting site of 55 Commonwealth Servicemen. Guests should arrive through the central entrance of the cemetery, where they could also ask for directions to the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery.

Poppies are on sale at the British Embassy Sofia, British Council Bulgaria, Sofia Central Cemetery (on the day of the ceremony) and Plovdiv Cemetery (on the day of the ceremony). All donations go to the Royal British Legion which supports veterans, servicemen and their families.
