Current role holder

Martin McCluskey MP

Martin McCluskey was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero on 7 September 2025.

He was elected as the MP for Inverclyde and Renfrewshire West in July 2024.

Education

Martin holds a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Oxford.

Political career

Martin was Assistant Whip, House of Commons between 18 July 2024 and 7 September 2025.

He represented Inverclyde West (Gourock) on Inverclyde Council between May 2022 and July 2024.

Career outside politics

After graduating, Martin worked in the public sector and then for VSO UK, an international development charity, where he led on policy and advocacy campaigns and UK government relations.

From 2018 to 2024 he worked with charities and businesses providing strategic communications and campaign support.

Personal Life

Martin is married and lives with his husband in Gourock.
