Whips are MPs or Lords appointed by each party to help organise their party’s contribution to parliamentary business. They are responsible for making sure the maximum number of their party members vote, and vote the way their party wants.
Current role holder: Jackie Doyle-Price MP
Jackie Doyle-Price was appointed Assistant Government Whip on 13 May 2015. She was elected Conservative MP for Thurrock in May 2010.
Jackie was educated at Notre Dame High School in Sheffield, going on to study economics at University College, Durham.
From 2010 to 2014 Jackie served on the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee which is responsible for scrutinising government spending. Jackie was elected Chairman of the All Party Gurkha Welfare Group in May 2012.
Career before politics
Jackie worked for the Sheffield Enterprise Agency and then moving onto the South Yorkshire Police. Prior to be being Private Secretary for the Mayor of the City of London, she was a consumer advocate for the Financial Services Authority.
