Whips are MPs or Lords appointed by each party to help organise their party’s contribution to parliamentary business. They are responsible for making sure the maximum number of their party members vote, and vote the way their party wants.

Chloe Smith was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and Assistant Government Whip for the House of Commons on 15 June 2017.
She served as Minister for Political and Constitutional Reform from September 2012 until June 2017. She is the Conservative MP for Norwich North.
Chloe studied English at the University of York.
Chloe was elected MP for Norwich North in July 2009. After joining the ministerial team she served as a government whip, before being appointed Economic Secretary to the Treasury in October 2011.
Career outside politics
Before entering Parliament, Chloe worked for international consultancy firm Deloitte, advising private businesses, government departments and public bodies.
