National Cancer Board
The reformed National Cancer Board tracks progress of the commitments within the National Cancer Plan and provides regular updates to ministers.
About the board
The board:
- advises on the strategic direction of the cancer ambitions in the National Cancer Plan for England, including how they should be interpreted, prioritised and sequenced as circumstances change
- offers advice, challenge and support on areas of concern brought to its attention, including where progress on an ambition is at risk or where important developments elsewhere may affect the plan
- reviews and advises on the annual progress report produced by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England cancer teams
The reformed board has added new members to monitor the impact of the plan on health inequalities, rarer cancers and children and young people’s cancers. DHSC will publish an annual summary of progress, along with a more in-depth report after 3 years.
