Consultation description

Following the Scottish Fingerprint Inquiry Andrew Rennison, Forensic Science Regulator and Gary Pugh, Chair of the Fingerprint Quality Standards Specialist Group (FQSSG) published a paper ‘Developing a quality standard for fingerprint examination’ in December 2011. The FQSSG has developed an appendix to the Forensic Science Regulators Codes of Practice and Conduct (Codes) for fingerprint comparison, a compendium of terminology, definitions and acronyms used by fingerprint practitioners and a consultation document discussing (a) the resolution of fingerprint disputes and (b) the reporting outcomes following a fingerprint examination.

The consultation paper, fingerprint comparison draft appendix to the codes and the terminology compendium have been issued to allow comments from interested parties; all comments will be given consideration prior to publication.

Comments should be sent on the feedback form provided to FSRConsultation1@homeoffice.gov.uk and should be submitted by 20 January 2014.
