Consultation description

We want to know what you think about our plans to remove waste acceptance derogations for hazardous waste from landfill permits. These derogations allowed landfill disposal of hazardous wastes while treatment or better disposal routes were developed. We think that we are approaching the point where many of these derogations are no longer necessary and would like your views on our plans to phase them out.

We will vary landfill permits to remove derogations for hazardous waste in early 2014 and to set an ‘expiry date’ for the remaining derogations. This change may affect a wide range of businesses, so we want to ensure that all have an opportunity to express their views.

We will use consultation responses to inform:

  • our final timetable for removing the remaining derogations
  • to assess the effect of our proposals
  • to finalise our business engagement assessment
