This consultation has concluded

Detail of outcome

The policy statement confirms the government’s approach to CCA reform. It includes a response to last year’s consultation and explains why the previously planned phase 2 consultation is no longer happening, as well as the approach to the provisions that were due to be included in that consultation. The statement also outlines transitional provisions and gives an indication of next steps. This includes two topics related to CCA reform: business lending and credit broking.

The government’s proposals on CCA reform will be taken forward when Parliamentary time allows.

Consultation description

This consultation sets out the government’s proposal to reform the CCA. Due to the scale and complexity, the work will be split into two phases. This is the consultation for Phase 1 which seeks views on the proposals in relation to information requirements, sanctions and criminal offences.

The government has identified opportunities to deliver a modernised regime which ensures consumers are provided with clear information at the right time enabling them to make informed financial decisions, as well as ensuring robust consumer protections are maintained. The consultation will also ensure the new consumer credit regime is proportionate and supports innovation and growth.

This consultation will be of interest to lenders, trade bodies and consumer groups.
