This guidance is for local authorities in England. It provides advice and case studies on opening up and sharing transport data, explaining why and how this should be done so that data can be used by others.

It includes:

• a simple introduction to the basics of sharing data
• data sharing case studies
• advice on a range of data-sharing topics
• recommendations on sources of support

The guidance also explains how data sharing is helping to support current Department for Transport (DfT) projects.

These resources have been created in response to user research commissioned by DfT, which found that a lack of information was preventing local authorities from opening and sharing data. Our guidance intends to remove that barrier.
