This series of publications contain key statistics describing trends in cautioning and sentencing for offences involving the possession of a knife or offensive weapon in England and Wales.
Statistical notice - Change to publication schedule
The knife and offensive weapon sentencing statistics are published quarterly presenting key statistics on knife and offensive weapon offences dealt with by the Criminal Justice System.
These statistics are currently released three months after the offences are dealt with. For example, figures for the year to September 2020 are published in December 2020. This is not in line with other sentencing statistics published by the Ministry of Justice, which have a five-month delay.
Following internal discussion with stakeholders it has been decided to change the timing of the knife possession and offensive weapon statistics so that it is consistent with other sentencing statistics published by the MoJ.
The next releases of knife and offensive weapon statistics for the year ending December 2020 will be released on 20 May 2021 and every quarter thereafter. A full list of future publications can be found on our release calendar.
