After reviewing the English business survey (EBS), BIS has decided to cease the collection of data and publication of statistics from the EBS. The last publication will take place on 30 April 2014. For more information on the decision and a brief list of some of the alternative sources of information provided by the English Business Survey, see the cessation notice below.
The English business survey (EBS) provides ministers and government officials with information about the current economic and business conditions across England. By providing timely and robust information on a regular and geographically detailed basis, the survey enhances officials’ understanding of how businesses are being affected throughout England and improve policy making by making it more responsive to changes in economic circumstances.
The EBS interviews 3,000 workplaces each month and provides timely intelligence on business conditions. The survey provides an assessment of past, current and future conditions.
The English Business Survey interactive map allows the user to examine quarterly statistics on the select variables of output, stock and employment for NUTS2 areas. The tool allows the user to compare NUTS2 areas between themselves and to England, across the entire time series.
