On 15 July 2026 the Minister for Local Government and Homelessness, Alison McGovern, in a written ministerial statement, announced a non-statutory review into Basildon Borough Council as part of a Best Value Notice issued to the Council. The review will be led by Rob Walsh and supported by Sharon Bridglalsingh and Margaret Lee.
