Animals in Science Regulation Governance Board
Independent advisory committee providing expert advice and challenge to support the delivery of the Animals in Science Regulation Unit’s regulatory functions.
The board supports the Home Office by providing external expertise on performance, strategy, risk and stakeholder engagement, helping to strengthen oversight and continuous improvement in the regulation of animals in science.
Membership
The Animals in Science Regulation Governance Board is comprised of independent members drawn from a range of scientific, veterinary, regulatory and industry backgrounds. Members are appointed through fair and open competition on merit, against criteria designed to ensure the board can provide balanced, informed advice.

- Dr Steven van Winden, Associate Professor of Population Medicine, Royal Veterinary College.
- Dr Sean Smith, Executive Director, European Research Models and Services Operations, Charles River Laboratories.
- Dr Rebeca Garcia Pinillos, Veterinary Welfare Advisor, Animal and Plant Health Agency, Department for Food, Environment and Rural Affairs, and founder of One Welfare CIC.
- Maggie Gentry, Director for Governance and Welfare, University of Cambridge.
- Dr Georgie Wilkinson, Named Veterinary Surgeon, trainer and member of the management team, Red Kite Veterinary Consultants Ltd.
