Over £19 million for culture and the community in Reading (Levelling Up Fund 2)

£19.1 million from the Levelling Up Fund is allocated to Reading to invest in Reading Central Library and the Hexagon Theatre.

A brand-new Central Library in Minster Quarter

The current Central Library is a well-used institution in Reading, unfortunately the current building is dated and lacks accessibility. Levelling Up funding will support the creation of a new custom-built library in Minster Quarter. The new Central Library will be in the former civic offices site on bridge street. It will continue to provide the traditional offer of book loans whilst offering learning opportunities and digital services.

Regenerating the Hexagon Theatre

Levelling Up funding will also support development of the Hexagon Theatre. A new Theatre space will be created named HexBox that will sit alongside the theatre, which will accommodate a wide range of uses and be available for community use. This extension will enable Hexagon Theatre to offer a more varied programme and attract new audiences.
