Over £14.7 million allocation for new film studios in Ashford

Over £14.7 million from the Levelling Up Fund was allocated to Ashford for support the creation of new international film studios.

New film studios for Ashford

The planned studios will sit on a 4.8-hectare (11.9 acres) brownfield site with five Grade II listed buildings. This is the site of the old Newton Railway Works.

The production and filming space will be developed with several partners, including:

  • Ashford International Development Company, a Joint Venture between Ashford Borough Council and Quinn Estates
  • a film and TV studios operator
  • EKC Group

Support for a Kent digital industry hub

Alongside the studio space, the funding will help to deliver:

  • a residential development
  • a new educational facility
  • commercial premises

It will form part of a digital industry hub in Kent, bringing new jobs to the area for local people.
