Newham's 15-minute neighbourhood project supported by almost £20 million funding
The investment will help high streets in north Newham that were affected by the pandemic.
Almost £20 million from the Levelling Up Fund will support Newham’s 15-minute neighbourhood project. The investment will help high streets in north Newham that were affected by the pandemic.
The funding will support three main projects.
Places for Community and Enterprise
Funding will bring the Grade II listed Alice Billings House back into use.
This will provide:
- affordable workspaces for residents and start-ups
- community facilities

Thanks in part to Levelling Up funding, we are delighted that the Creative Land Trust can play such a major role in the reinvention of this beautiful, Grade II listed building, bringing 30 more affordable studios under the Creative Land Trust’s stewardship to Newham, an exciting and blossoming borough for the arts. It is also further proof that long term studio provision and cultural activation can be achieved in historical buildings.
Newham’s Shared Spaces plan
The Shared Spaces initiative responds to residents’ concerns about town centres. The funding will make town centres in north Newham:
- more environmentally friendly
- better for pedestrians
- safer for all
Connected Neighbourhoods
The Connected Neighbourhoods part of the project will:
- increase air quality around Romford Road
- improve journey times in north Newham
