Jennifer

My adviser encouraged me to think of different types of employment and recommended Sainsbury’s as a good employer of deaf people. I applied for a position and now I’m back in work – amazing!

Jennifer is relishing being back in work after 12 years, thanks to the support of a new partnership between local Work Programme provider Ingeus, and deaf communication specialists Clarion.

A deaf single parent who has been caring for her children and her mother for more than 12 years, Jennifer had struggled to find suitable work to fit around her family. But with the support of her Work Programme advisers, she has been able to secure work as an online shopper at her local Sainsbury’s superstore.

Jennifer’s advisers looked at her work history and job goals, and helped her to identify her many accomplishments as a single parent and carer. They then worked together to develop a CV that highlighted these transferable skills. Her advisers gave her the practical support she needed with phone calls and correspondence and arranged for an interpreter to help her as she settled in to her new role.

The Work Programme is part funded by the European Social Fund.
