Case study

Conwy Valley receives £18.6 million transport boost (Levelling Up Fund 2)

£18.6 million from the Levelling Up Fund has been allocated to Conwy Council to create a safe and direct cycle route between Llandudno Junction and Betws y Coed via the Conwy Valley. Funding will also be used to help prevent flooding in the area.

Coast to Valley

There is currently no route for cyclists through Conwy Valley from Llandudno Junction to Betws y Coed. Funding for the Coast to Valley scheme will help create a new 16km route for cyclists and pedestrians that is safe, segregated, direct and attractive.

The new cycle route will improve links between the North Wales coast and inland tourist attractions such as Snowdonia National Park.

Improving the flood resilience of Trefriw

Trefriw gets cut off from surrounding areas during floods. Funding will be used to improve the B5106 north to Dolgarrog and south to Llanrwst and Betws y Coed.

These improvements will:

  • improve the village’s accessibility during floods
  • connect Trefriw into the Coast to Valley network
  • increase climate resilience in the area

The complementary schemes form part of the wider Coast to Valley strategy.
