£185,000 awarded to Clayton Community Centre to support major improvements

£185,000 Community Ownership Funding will support a range of improvements to Clayton Community Centre in Accrington, Lancashire.

The funding will allow the community centre to:

  • better connect people to their community
  • help people develop healthy habits
  • offer a wider range of activities

The new community centre

The new and improved centre will provide a new home for Clayton Amateur Boxing Club. The old library space will be redeveloped into a new facility with specialist equipment. This will encourage more women and disabled adults to take part in boxing.

Other improvements to the centre include:

  • the conversion of two storage rooms into multi use spaces
  • refurbishment of the kitchen
  • a new reception

A ‘Friends of Clayton Community Centre’ group is being established to ensure that the new and improved building responds to the needs of the local community.
