The identity of the data controller

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is collecting this data.

The Sport and Gambling Directorate within DCMS is seeking to gather evidence on sport integrity issues.

Purposes of this privacy notice

This notice is provided to meet the obligations as set out in Articles 13 and 14 of the UK GDPR. This notice sets out how DCMS will use your personal data as part of our legal obligations with regard to Data Protection.

The personal data we collect

Most of the personal information we collect and process is the data provided to us directly by you in the responses to our call for evidence. This includes your role in the sport sector, the sports you are involved in and other demographic information. It is optional whether you decide to provide this information.

How we will use your data

We use your data to enable us to carry out our functions as a government department. For the purpose of this research, we use your data to inform further policy development on sport integrity issues in the United Kingdom.

To process this personal data, our legal reason for collecting or processing this data is Article 6 (1) (e) of the UK GDPR: it is necessary to perform a public task (to carry out a public function or exercise powers set out in law, or to perform a specific task in the public interest that is set out in law).

In this case, the processing of your personal data is necessary for the performance of a task in the public interest, as the information gathered helps inform future policies. Where we do process special category data as part of this research, we will rely on Article 9(2)(g) of the UK GDPR as the processing is necessary for substantial public interest and Schedule 1 part 2 section 8(1)(b) where the processing is necessary for the purposes of identifying or keeping under review the existence or absence of equality of opportunity or treatment between groups of people specified in relation to the category with a view to enabling such equality to be promoted or maintained.

What will happen if you do not provide this data

If you do not provide this personal data, you will still be able to provide your views on the issues covered by this call for evidence.

Who your data will be shared with

Information provided in response to this call for evidence may be published at an aggregated and anonymised level, or disclosed in accordance with the access to information regimes (primarily the Freedom of Information Act 2000). This does not include personal information; no information identifying specific respondents will be published without their consent.

This call for evidence relates to some sensitive and distressing topics, but its focus is the processes behind the handling of sport integrity issues. It is not designed to capture disclosures of, or concerns around, specific incidents.

The information you provide in your response will not routinely be shared with any third parties. However, if anything in your response suggests to us that a criminal offence may have been committed then we may share the relevant information with the police or relevant law enforcement agency if we consider it appropriate to do so.

How long your data will be held for

Your personal data will be kept for 2 years, in line with DCMS retention policy.

Data uses - automated decision making or profiling

We will not use your data for any automated decision making.

Data uses - outside the UK

Your data will not be transferred outside the UK.

Your data protection rights

You have rights over your personal data under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

The Information Commissioner’s Office is the supervisory authority for data protection legislation. You can find more information on the ICO’s website, including an explanation of your rights over your personal data.

DCMS will ensure that we uphold your rights when processing your personal data.
