What an international government procurement agreement (GPA) achieves
The government procurement chapter in free trade agreements (FTAs), and other international agreements concerning trade, provides enforceable rules and standards for an open, transparent and non-discriminatory framework on government procurement.
The chapter sets out which government procurement contracts are covered and requires both parties to treat each other’s goods, services and suppliers fairly.
Timeframe to deliver a UK-Morocco GPA
We are currently in the scoping stage, and any future work plan will be subject to further engagement. We want more evidence and feedback on UK businesses’ experience of the Moroccan government procurement market.
The benefits of a GPA with Morocco
Morocco is not a member of the World Trade Organization agreement on government procurement. The UK has no existing international trade commitments on government procurement with Morocco.
The addition of a government procurement chapter in the UK-Morocco association agreement would create new international commitments on government procurement between the UK and Morocco.
It will improve access for UK goods, services and suppliers competing for public contracts in Morocco’s public procurement market, which is estimated at around £33 billion over the next few years.
