If your business handles products of animal origin, you may require approval by your local authority.

The local authority will decide if you are subject to approval or required to be registered.

Please note: A food establishment is either approved or registered, with some exceptions, depending on the activity involved.

Approval is not required in certain circumstances. You must contact your local authority to advise them of the activities which you intend to undertake. This information will assist with their decision making process and identify if an exemption can be applied.

Important Information

It is a criminal offence for a food establishment that is subject to approval, to operate unless approval has been granted by the local authority.
