Details

This report reviews the performance of property level flood protection measures (PLP) during the 2012 floods. The project ran from 2013 to 2014. It uses this information to make recommendations about the future management of PLP after their installation and calculate the costs of the long-term maintenance of the equipment. It’s important that those who receive PLP equipment are able to operate it effectively. This is to keep it in good working order in order to maintain the level of protection.

Conclusions

The responses received from local authorities and the Environment Agency showed that PLP measures:

  • installed during floods have performed as intended in most cases
  • have protected against the effects of flooding in 84% of properties

This demonstrates that PLP can provide communities in flood risk areas with flood measures that are cost-effective and easy to operate.
