This report provides an overview of approaches for rainfall modelling at ungauged locations or those with low benefit from flood warning. This is to evidence whether an improved flood watch service could be provided. The focus is on rainfall-runoff but other options are discussed, such as hydrological channel flow routing models and hydrodynamic river models.

This project considers opportunities for improved flood warnings for ungauged locations relating to advances in monitoring and uncertain triggers for warnings. It produces new operational guidelines for modelling at ungauged locations.

This project ran from 2004 to 2006.
