Details

Internal Drainage Boards (IDBs) are local public bodies responsible for land drainage in areas of special drainage need. Their role has changed over time and now contributes to flood risk management for:

  • homes
  • businesses and infrastructure
  • protecting and enhancing biodiversity

There’s currently no consistent method for assessing the benefits that IDBs provide.

This project was commissioned to achieve two key objectives. These were to develop:

  • methods and tools to identify the benefits provided by IDBs - who benefits from their work to inform policy on IDB boundaries and the setting up of new IDBs
  • a set of indicators to help IDBs demonstrate the value they provide to local communities and others - to help achieve greater accountability and efficiency

This project ran during 2012 at a cost of £68,110.
