Details

Increasing public awareness of the risk of flooding has been a priority for the Environment Agency since the review of the flood events in 1998 and 2000. Areas where the probability of flooding is low, but where the consequences of flooding may be medium to high, could create high levels of risk for the public.

This research project identified recommendations for raising awareness about flood risks in these types of areas. It reviews the approaches to communicating risk of flooding and other hazards in the UK, the Netherlands, Australia and the United States. The project is based on literature and experience from stakeholders working in flood risk management and communication.

This project ran from 2001 to 2005.
