Details

This research project helps Defra and the Environment Agency identify locations where there’s a significant chance of loss of life or serious harm to people from flooding. It covers the effects of:

  • flow velocity
  • flood hazard
  • area and people vulnerability

The research has a wide range of uses, such as:

  • raising awareness of the dangers of flood water
  • helping with emergency planning, development control,
  • flood mapping to identify ‘hot spots’ and steer the development of risk management measures

The project was completed in 2005.
