Details
There are intense and conflicting pressures on flood plains. These include conservation, restoration, amenity and development as well as providing space for flood waters to pass through or be stored.
This project provided guidance on how to manage flood plains effectively for:
- river managers
- local authorities
- communities
- conservationists
- developers
It was designed to lead to the development of a Flood Plain Manual to be a common reference for everyone involved in managing flood plains.
The report for this first phase of the project provided initial guidance for local authorities and others. It included proposals for the second phase of the project, including research.
The project started in 2001 and was completed in 2002 at a cost of £25,000.
