Details
Any changes in how land is used and managed can affect how often and how badly local farms and rural communities flood, and contribute to flooding at larger scales.
Approach
This review pulls together current knowledge and prepares a plan of research over the next 10 years. This is to improve the scientific understanding of the effects of changes in how land is used and managed. It uses information about the effects of rural land use and soil management on flooding and proposes a research programme that includes land management in flood impact estimation.
Outcome
The outputs of this project are aimed at those who want to reduce flood risk through specific land management practices. It’s also to assess the impact of specific management practices on flood risk.
This project ran from 2003 to 2004 at a cost of £141,955.
