You need a certificate from the police to operate as a firearms dealer in Northern Ireland.

You’re a firearms dealer if you manufacture, sell, transfer, repair, test or prove firearms or ammunition.

How to apply

Download ‘form 30 3 application for the grant or variation of a firearms dealers certificate or to add an additional place of business’ from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) website.

You’ll need to provide:

  • your details
  • your business details
  • details of any convictions, including spent convictions
  • details of your medical history
  • consent for your GP to be contacted

Certificates last for 5 years. You must reapply for a certificate after it expires if you want to carry on operating as a firearms dealer.

Conditions

The PSNI will tell you what security measures you need to ensure the safe storage of firearms and ammunition.

Fines and penalties

It’s a criminal offence to operate as a firearms dealer without a certificate from the PSNI.
