To run a residential care home you must be registered with the Health and Social Care Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA).

You are deemed to be running a residential care home if you run an establishment that provides residential accommodation with board and personal care for people in need of personal care due to:

  • old age and infirmity
  • disablement
  • dependence on alcohol or drugs
  • mental disorder
