Working Paper No. 1. War, State Collapse and Reconstruction: Phase 2 of the Crisis States Programme

Abstract

In this paper the Centre's Director outlines the plans for Centre research over the next five years. This 2nd edition was prepared after completion of an inception period for the current phase of work and incorporates amendments made after discussions at a series of workshops. The paper lays out a programme which involves rigorous comparative analysis of processes of war, state collapse (or its avoidance) and reconstruction. The programme is divided into three major components, hinged on comparative national level study, study at the level of the city and study of regional and global processes.
