Women in the News: Strengthening the Voice and Visibility of Women in the African Media’s Coverage of Elections, Politics and Governance, 2008. A Handbook for Women Politicians and the Media.

Abstract

The purpose of this handbook is twofold: to build the capacity of the media in Africa to analyse election and governance processes from a gender perspective; and to strengthen the ability of women in politics and public life to engage with the media and to communicate effectively through the media on politics and governance issues. The handbook is directed at two audiences: The media (primarily journalists who are the foot soldiers in gathering the news); and Women in public life (i.e. women politicians, aspiring female candidates, women in governance and political structures).
