WHO/MMV Artemisinin Conference 2009 - Ensuring Sustainable API Supply to Meet Global ACT Demand. Mumbai, India, 28-30 September 2009
Abstract
The main objectives of this conference were to present the latest demand forecasts for artemisinin combination therapies (ACTs), discuss relevant issues of ACT/API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) and artemisinin production and quality standards, present recent initiatives to help ensure adequate supply of artemisinin to meet the ACT demand forecasts from 2010-2012, present the latest developments in the production, processing and derivitisation for Artemisia/artemisinin, and present and discuss the challenges of resistance, monotherapies etc. Many of the presentations are available on the website. It is concluded that progress is being made but there is still more to do.
