Abstract

How do role players in the education sector in South Africa understand the interrelationship between gender equality, poverty and education, and what strategies are pursued to reduce poverty? In this Focus these questionsare explored by drawing on data from school and provincial education department case studies in South Africa that were conducted in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
