Understanding the Social Protection Implications of Changing Demographics in Rwanda

This study makes recommendations on priority actions to support both policy makers and development partners

Abstract

This study:

  • consolidates existing literature and demographic data for Rwanda;

  • identifies longer-term constraints and opportunities for harnessing Rwanda’s demographic transition through a social protection lens;

  • makes recommendations on priority actions to support both policy makers and development partners in planning for Rwanda’s changing population and age.

The study is an output from the Department for International Development’s ‘Strengthening Research Systems for Poverty Reduction in East Africa Programme’
