Understanding The Recruitment And Retention Of Women In Clinical Trials - March 2008. What Are Some Of The Considerations Regarding Recruitment And Retention Of Women In AIDS Vaccine Clinical Trials?

Abstract

Because women can be the largest group infected with AIDS in some countries, targets are set for enrollment of women in clinical trials of vaccines. Enrolling enough women is a challenge. One barrier is the position of women as sole carers in the family, meaning women are unable to regularly visit a trial site. The other major barrier is pregnancy. Pregnant women cannot participate in trials because the safey of the fetus is paramount.
