The livelihoods approach.

Abstract

This presentation considers the livelihoods framework; forestry connections to the framework; and preliminary ideas about data analysis using Tanzanian data for illustration. The framework covers: assets (forests as shared or joint assets); activities (the extraction of forest products); outcomes (higher income/consumption; changing forest quality); vulnerability (critical coping role); and institutions.
