The important relationship between landlords and tenants in improving sanitation - the case of Keko Machungwa settlement, Dar es Salaam

Abstract

The relationship between landlords and tenants was highlighted by Keko Machungwa (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania) community members as a critical challenge in improving sanitation standards. The Tanzania Urban Poor Federation and Centre for Community Initiatives have been exploring ways of improving the relationship between landlords and tenants in Tanzania, with a view to improving sanitation in informal settlements. This report discusses an example of these initiatives, in Keko Machungwa settlemennt, Dar es Salaam.
