Abstract

This presentation covers the reasons for studying state capacity and political incentives; the questions to be answered; work so far; forms of state capacity; other factors; the effects of the global financial crisis on developing countries; policy responses to the crisis; and the economic, political and governance challenges in crisis responses (examples from Tanzania, Bangladesh and Sudan).
