“SMS for Life“: Use of stock information to improve supply chain

Abstract

This presentation describes the 'SMS for Life' project (led by Novartis and MMV) to report stocks of ACT (artemisinin combination therapy) and quinine at health facilities in Tanzania using SMS text messages, and how this information is used to improve the supply chain and ensure availability. The conclusions are that the project is worth undertaking and that active participation of stakeholders in the supply chain at all levels is vital for the improvement of stocks availability.
