Abstract

This paper provides background information on Mozambique to contextualise research issues and questions for the project in this country. An initial historical and geographical overview provides background information on the history of resource management in Mozambique and spatial data relevant to resource potential and the distribution of poverty. Later sections deal with current knowledge of poverty and livelihoods in Mozambique, access to natural resources (land, wild resources and water), current policy and legislation, and key research questions on access to natural resources.
